The Alma Mater Song, composed and first sung in 1967, was truly an act of inspiration. Originally, the song began with the line “All hail to our Alma Mater” which was prompted by the morning visits of a songbird to Mrs. Lenore Mahase-Samaroo’s home in Valsayn. A trip to Salybia soon after brought another bird, and the first quatrain was added. Mrs. Samaroo, in an interview given to students on September 9th, 2005, enthusiastically declared that the school song “was meant to be written, and it was written with love”. Her belief was that we, the students, could make our school proud by pursuing “virtuous lives and useful days”. The lines, she noted, should be sung with love and with deep thoughts of loyalty and devotion.
